The Government chief made the emphasis on Monday in Hà Nội at a meeting with the Steering Committee for the National Goal Program on Climate Change to review the outcomes gained during one year after the launching of the Program.

Việt Nam outlined and publicized its scenarios on climate change and sea level rise, laying the foundation for ministries, sectors and localities to assess impacts of climate change on every aspect of life as well as design responding plans.

It is reported that at the end of the 21st century, temperature and rainfall in Việt Nam would rise 2.C and 5% respectively against the period of 1980-1999. Việt Nam would be one of five countries badly hit by climate change.

In the coming time, all ministries and localities should pay attention to designing overall plans on irrigation, hydroelectricity, transportation, and afforestation, stated PM Dũng.

The Government chief also noted the necessity to raise public awareness of climate change and sea level rise.

The Steering Committee would update and supplement the scenarios on climate change and sea level rise in Việt Nam in the 21st century and launch new pilot projects on climate change adaptation in some specific sectors.

Climate change would be included in the ten-year socio-economic development strategy (2011-2020) as well as the five-year  plan (2011-2015).
