German President to pay State visit to Viet Nam

VGP - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his spouse will pay a State visit to Viet Nam from January 23-24, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The visit will be made at the invitation of Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.

Viet Nam and Germany established diplomatic relations on September 23, 1975 and strategic partnership in 2011.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid an official visit to Viet Nam on November 13-14, 2022 in which the two countries signed three cooperation agreements in defense, energy and vocational training.

Germany was Viet Nam's largest trading partner in the European Union (EU), with two-way trade turnover in the first seven months of 2023 reaching US$7.3 billion, up 18.5 percent over the same period in 2022.

Germany was the 17th largest investor out of 140 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam, with a total registered foreign direct investment of US$2.3 billion as of last January.

Viet Nam was Germany's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia and its sixth largest trading partner in Asia.

More than 7,000 Vietnamese students are studying in Germany./.
