General Secretary To Lam hosts reception for Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre

DeSombre, who is on an official visit to Viet Nam, conveyed President Donald Trump's congratuations to H.E. Mr. To Lam on his re-election as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, and on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

General Secretary To Lam said the 14th National Party Congress has opened up a new development stage for Viet Nam. He thanked President Donald Trump for congratulating him on the success of the 14th National Party Congress.

The top Vietnamese Party leader welcomed DeSombre to Viet Nam, and spoke highly of the U.S. Department of State's role in advancing the growth momentum of the Viet Nam-U.S. relations over the past time.

Viet Nam always regards the U.S. as one of the partners of top importance, and stands ready to further enhance extensive cooperation with the U.S. across fields, for the benefits of the two countries' people, and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world, affirmed General Secretary To Lam.

He promised that Viet Nam will continue to remain steadfast in pursuing its the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of external relations, being a responsible member and ready to make positive contributions to resolve regional and international issues.

DeSombre shared that President Donald Trump appreciated General Secretary To Lam's decision to join the Gaza Board of Peace established within the framework of President Donald Trump's 20-Point Plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

The U.S. attaches importance to the Viet Nam-U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership, and supports a strong, independent, and prosperous Viet Nam, and expects to further strengthen strategic cooperation with Viet Nam in both bilateral aspect and regional and international issues, DeSombre affirmed.

He highly valued the outcomes of his working sessions with several Vietnamese ministries and agencies during his ongoing visit, pledging to continue efforts to promote substantive development of the Viet Nam-U.S. relations in the coming time.

During his stay in Viet Nam, DeSombre also met with Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung./.
