VGP – General Secretary and President of Viet Nam To Lam is set to pay a State visit to Indina from May 5-7 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

General Secretary and President of Viet Nam To Lam

Viet Nam and India established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972 and elevated the bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2016.

In 2025, the two-way trade reached US$16.46 billion, an increase of 10.5 percent against 2024. The trade volume rose 28 percent year-on-year to US$4.8 billion in the first three months this year.

On investment, Indian investors had 503 projects in Viet Nam with total registered capital of US$1.117 billion as of March 2026, ranking 26th out of 154 countries and territories investing in the Southeast Asian nation.

Indian investors have poured investment capital in 15 out of 21 economic sectors in Viet Nam, focusing on processing and manufacturing with US$643.3 million, accounting for 54.7 percent of the total registered capital, followed by electricity generation and distribution with US$157 million, and mineral exploitation with US$95 million.

By the end of March 2026, Viet Nam had 30 investment projects in India, with total registered capital of over US$150 million.

The two countries have signed a number of cooperation agreements and set tup a joint commission for nuclear energy cooperation for peaceful purposes. Both sides are actively beefing up cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and rare earth./.
