General Secretary, President To Lam, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese co-chair joint press briefing

Speaking at the press briefing, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his pleasure to welcome General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation on their State visit to Australia. 

He affirmed that Viet Nam is one of the fastest-growing economies in the region and noted that Viet Nam’s achievements are creating opportunities to drive the cooperative relationship between the two countries to develop even more strongly.

Albanese shared that he and General Secretary and President To Lam held discussions and agreed to strengthen cooperation, further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations; enhance the resilience, adaptability, and economic recovery of both Viet Nam and Australia; and step up development cooperation in defense, maritime affairs, border security, the digital economy, agriculture, energy, mining, technology and science, and innovation.

Albanese emphasized that both sides have many additional opportunities to boost trade value and further strengthen economic ties. Educational cooperation remains one of the vital pillars, while new air routes will promote trade and deepen people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Prime Minister Albanese expressed confidence that the bilateral relationship will continue to flourish and voiced his commitment to working closely to translate these opportunities into practice, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both nations.

For his side, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders and people of Australia, as well as to the Prime Minister personally, for the warm and gracious reception extended to the high-level Vietnamese delegation. 

To Lam highly valued Australia's policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening ties with Southeast Asia.

He stated that during their talks, both sides engaged in extensive discussions on major orientations to deepen bilateral relations. He said the two countries will push for even stronger cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, digital technology, cybersecurity, green technology, and emerging technologies; support capacity building to enable deeper participation in regional and global supply chains; and strengthen education-training cooperation along with people-to-people exchanges.

Regarding regional and international issues, General Secretary and President To Lam noted that both sides agreed to enhance dialogue, build trust, ensure maritime and aviation security and safety, and resolve disputes through peaceful means based on respect for international law. 

Viet Nam has adopted resolutions establishing the foundations to build and develop itself into a strong maritime nation, and it highly values and desires cooperation with a major maritime power like Australia, he said.

He encouraged Australia to enhance its connectivity with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), reinforce ASEAN's central role, and support the Mekong sub-region in building a green economy and achieving sustainable development.
