Earlier, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh met with the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral Filho, on May 28.
At the meeting, the General Secretary said that Vietnam is looking to boost trade and economic cooperation with Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second largest economic center with a modern infrastructure and developed industries.

With open policies, Vietnamese localities are willing to welcome investors from Brazil in general and Rio de Janeiro in particular.
For his part, Governor Sergio Cabral Filho affirmed that Rio de Janeiro authorities will pursue increased multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in trade, culture, tourism and sports.
In the evening of May 27, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh received the Overseas Vietnamese Community in Brazil. He highlighted that the Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part of the nation.
The current renewal and national construction need contributions from all Vietnamese people, including overseas Vietnamese, the Party chief said, adding that the State always creates favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese, including those in Brazil, to do business in the country.
