General Secretary calls for allocating 3% budget spending for science and technology in 2025

VGP – General Secretary To Lam has requested the Government to allocate at least 3 percent of total budget spending for science and technology, innovation and digital transformation in 2025.

To made the request while addressing the 2nd meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation in Ha Noi on Tuesday.

The Government should gradually increase budget for this mission in the following years in a bid to improve the scientific and technological contents in products and goods, the General Secretary suggested.

He also urged the Government to build and improve digital infrastructure, ensure 5G coverage nationwide, and soon put the national data center into operation.

The Party chief stressed the need to develop artificial intelligence (AI), identifying it as a spearhead and breakthrough sector; adopt preferential tax policies in favor of semiconductor chip production, and attract foreign direct investment projects with high-tech contents.

He also called for opening automatic immigration gates, implementing non-stop toll collection at bus stations and urban parking lots, and simplifying administrative procedures, especially public services related to land and enterprises.

To said localities and centrally run cities will establish their steering committees for development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.

The Central Steering Committee for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation, led by General Secretary To Lam, was established in accordance with the Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation.

Under the Resolution, the Politburo targets that by the end of this decade, Viet Nam will be among top three countries in Southeast Asia and top 50 countries in the world in terms of digital competitiveness and e-government development indices, among top three countries in Southeast Asia in terms of artificial intelligence research and development, a development hub for several digital technology sectors and industries that Viet Nam has advantages.

By 2045, the digital economy size will reach 50 percent of GDP, making Viet Nam one of the top hubs for digital technology industry in the region and the world, among top 30 countries in the world in terms of innovation and digital transformation.

The rate of tech companies will be equivalent to that of developed countries; at least 10 tech businesses will reach the levels of advanced countries. Attracting at least five more tech giants in the world to set up headquarters, invest in research and production in Viet Nam./.
