General election begins nationwide

VGP – Nearly 79 million voters are set to go to 72,000 polling stations on Sunday (March 15) to select 500 deputies to the 16th National Assembly from 864 candidates.

They will also cast votes to elect 72,611 deputies to People’s Councils at all levels from 120,873 candidates.

The general election begins at 7:00 a.m. and is set to conclude at 7:00 p.m. on the same day, except in cases where voting is extended as permitted by law, but no later than 9:00 p.m.

Newly elected deputies shall serve five-year term, from 2026 to 2031.

The 16th National Assembly is expected to convene the first plenary session from April 6-11, and April 20-25, 2026.
