Forest coverage hits 42.02% by end of 2021

VGP - As of late 2021, Viet Nam’s forest coverage was 42.02 percent, up 0.01 percent against 2020, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Viet Nam had 14,745,201ha of forest area, of which13,923,108ha met  the standards for calculating forest coverage. 

The ministry said it assigned the Administration of Forestry to set up a national forest resources database. 

Localities that record a reduction in natural forest area in 2021 were requested to investigate the causes of the reduction and undertake measures to restore the forests destroyed, as well as to identify and punish those who are responsible for the reduction in forest area.

In  2020, the country housed 10,279,185ha of natural forest and 4,398,030ha of planted forest./.
