Foreign Minister meets EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in Brussels

VGP - Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on October 21 had a meeting with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, in Brussels, Belgium.

October 22, 2026 9:48 AM GMT+7

The meeting took place on the occasion of General Secretary and President To Lam's ongoing official visit to the EU.

Le spoke highly of the EU's Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, affirming Viet Nam's readiness to continue serving as a bridge to foster deeper, more substantive and effective ASEAN-EU relations.

Such efforts would help strengthen connectivity between the two regions and promote peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development, he noted.

Kallas, for her part, reassured that the EU attaches great importance to its relations with Viet Nam, considering Viet Nam a priority partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

She praised Viet Nam's development achievements and its increasing role and standing in the region and on the international stage.

Viet Nam and the EU share many common views and interests in promoting multilateralism, upholding the rules-based international order, supporting free trade, ensuring maritime and aviation security, safety and freedom, and peacefully settling disputes on the basis of international law, she emphasized.

Both sides vowed to further strengthen coordination between Viet Nam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European External Action Service (EEAS) to effectively advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and the EU.

They pledged to maintain all-level delegation exchanges, contacts and consultations, make effective use of existing cooperation mechanisms, and actively review and follow up on the implementation of agreements and commitments made by their senior leaders, particularly the outcomes of General Secretary and President To Lam's on-going visit.

The two sides pledged to maintain close coordination at regional and international forums, build on their shared interests and perspectives, and enhance cooperation on both traditional and non-traditional security issues.

They also reaffirmed their support for ASEAN centrality and their commitment to upholding the United Nations Charter and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)./.
