Flag hoisting ceremony marks ASEAN’s founding anniversary

The ceremony saw the attendance of officials from the MOFA, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Committee, Venezuelan Ambassador to Viet Nam Jorge Rondon Uzcategui – acting head of the diplomatic corps and representatives of ASEAN member countries’ embassies in Ha Noi.

The bloc is in a sprint for establishing a common community by 2015 when regional security situation has many complicated developments, requiring the bloc to be united, particularly in security and development issues.

Coincident with the anniversary, the 47th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings, which opened today in Myanmar, are expected to quicken the realization of the community construction dream and enhance the bloc’s external relations.

In a recent article, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh said that the key to the bloc’s breakthroughs is unity and unceasing efforts. The unity is a basis for building the community and maintaining the bloc’s central role when facing increasing influences from powers, such hot spots as in the East Sea and other security challenges.
