Five former officials judged over land revocation

VGP – The People’s Court of Hai Phong City on Monday began the trial of five former officials involving in coercive land revocation in Vinh Quang Commune, Tien Lang District in 2012.

The defendants who were accused of destroying property as stipulated in Point A, Clause 3, Article 143 of the Penal Code, include former Deputy Chairman of the Tien Lang District People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khanh, former Head of the District Natural Resources and Environment Office Pham Xuan Hoa, and former Chairman of the Vinh Quang Commune People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem.

Meanwhile, former Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Quang Commune Pham Dang Hoan faced the same charge under Point G, Clause 2, Article 143 of the Penal Code.

Former Chairman of the Tien Lang District People’s Committee Le Van Hien was charged of showing irresponsibility and causing serious consequences in accordance with Clause 1, Article 285 of the Penal Code.

Earlier on April 5, the People’s Court of Hai Phong City also finished the hearing trial of six farmers who were charged with murder and resisting on-duty officers.

The farmers include Doan Van Vuon, Doan Van Quy in Vinh Quang Commune, Doan Van Sinh in Tien Lang’s Dong Hung Commune, and Doan Van Ve in Tieng Lang’s Bach Dang Commune.

Doan Van Vuon and Doan Van Quy were sentenced to five years in prison each. Doan Van Sinh was sentenced to three years and six months, and Doan Van Ve received two years as stipulated in article 93 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, other defendants, namely Pham Thi Bau, Quy’s wife, and Nguyen Thi Thuong, Vuon’s wife, received 18-month and 15-month suspended sentences, respectively.
