Accordingly, the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh topped the PGI rankings 2022, followed by Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh and Da Nang. These localities have average scores with 90 percent confidence intervals.

PGI evaluates and ranks environmental quality in 63 provinces and cities from the perspective of enterprises, the application of environmentally friendly technology in enterprises, the environmental behavior of enterprises, and the level of willingness to invest in the environment in localities.

The index targets to enable provinces and cities in Viet Nam to pay greater attention to economic development associated with environmental protection, provide timely information to support provincial administration in policy planning, promote the construction of an eco-friendly business ecosystem, and contribute to attracting investors with environmental awareness and quality “green” projects for Viet Nam.

Previously, Viet Nam committed at COP26 to bringing emissions to zero by 2050, in order to keep the global temperature rise at the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, while gradually phasing out fossil energy, developing clean energy, and reducing methane emissions./.
