First cyclotron center inaugurated in VN

VGP – The debut and operation of the first cyclotron center will surely open a new stage of development for Việt Nam’s nuclear medicine, meeting the increasing needs for diagnosis of such conditions as heart diseases and cancer.

The Military Hospital 108 on Monday organized the inauguration of its Cyclotron Center 30 MeV, the first one of its kind in Việt Nam, which was built for two years.

The center is supposed to be a modern and effective instrument for doctor in Hà Nội and the surrounding provinces to make breakthroughs in diagnosing, monitoring, assessing and controlling heart diseases and cancer - the two top fatal conditions in Việt Nam.

Attending the inauguration, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng noted that, in 2006, the Government already issued the strategy on atomic energy application for peaceful purposes, especially national socio-economic development and medical treatment.

The center will be the foundation to build a national radiation treatment center soon.

PM Dũng asked the Military Hospital 108 to closely work with research institutions, universities and other relevant agencies to make full use of this facility.
