Remarkable progress has been recorded in bilateral economic ties over the past time, with the two-way trade more likely to surpass US$10 billion this year, Nguyen added.

Viet Nam is now the largest ASEAN foreign direct investor in Cambodia with nearly US$3 billion and one of the biggest tourist source markets for the neighboring country, said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

During the visit, Pham will discuss with Cambodian leaders on how to further strengthen linkages between the two economies, including promoting economic cooperation along the shared borderline.

The Prime Minister will also attend the Viet Nam-Cambodia trade and investment promotion forum, which indicates that the Governments of the two countries attach special importance to the role of their business circles as well as their determination to make economic cooperation a pillar of the bilateral ties.

This is the first visit abroad by Pham since he became Prime Minister of Viet Nam in 2021, which takes place on the occasion of the 55th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties.

The visit offers an opportunity for the two sides' Prime Ministers to identify new driving forces and fresh measures to further bolster the bilateral ties in a more practical and effective manner in the next period.

It also provides a chance for the two Government leaders to discuss measures to revive the two economies after three years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the two Prime Ministers are expected to exchange views and positions on regional and international issues, discuss ways to beef up mutual support at multi-lateral forums.

Viet Nam will show strong support for Cambodia to successfully assume the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, said the Deputy Foreign Minister./.
