Designs of Tran Hung Dao bridge to be exhibited for public comments
VGP - The People's Committee of Ha Noi has agreed with the proposal made by Management Board for Investment Projects of Traffic Construction to organize an exhibition for the results of architectural contest of Tran Hung Dao bridge, starting from March 1.
The bridge project is 31m wide and 5.5km long, connecting Hoa Kiem and Hai Ba Trung Districts to Long Bien District in the northern bank of the Red River.
The bridge has its starting point at the Tran Hung Dao-Tran Thanh Tong intersection in Hoan Kiem District and extended to Nguyen Van Linh Road in Long Bien District. The project will include different infrastructure such as water supply and drainage, trenches, tunnels, trees and lighting.
Base on public opinions, the city's Department for Planning and Architecture will submit a report to the Municipal People's Committee for consideration and approval of the architectural plan of the bridge.
According to the Council for Selection, there are 20 options submitted by 12 domestic and foreign consulting and design firms which are eligible to participate. Of which, 3 options with outstanding designs have been selected by the Council to propose to the city for approval.
Option 1, Extrados reinforced concrete bridge (beams - mixed cables) has the main structure of 5 towers combined with cable-stayed. In which, the central tower is designed to create accents, and the four other towers on both sides are symmetrical about the main tower.
Option 2, steel arch bridge combined with cable-stayed includes 3 soft main arches contrasting with 4 leaning towers on both sides to form a unity between opposites, describing the symbol of the harmony between yin and yang.
Option 3 is a prestressed reinforced concrete box girder bridge with tower piers. This design is classical in style, connecting the axis landscape of French colony architecture and the new urban zone in the north of the Red River.
The cost of this project is estimated to be nearly VND 9 trillion (US$ 395.6 million) and is expected to be built between 2022-25 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.
Tran Hung Dao Bridge is one of 18 bridges crossing the Red River that were approved in the master plan for the transport sector by 2030. 8/18 bridges have already been constructed, and an additional 10 will be built in the time to come./.
