Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai

Le highly spoke of the latest visit of the Secretary of the Treasury to Viet Nam in July 2023, which paved the way for the upgrade of bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during U.S. President Joe Biden’s official visit to Viet Nam last September.

Hecongratulated the U.S. on economic achievements made under President Joe Biden's administration, particularly in economic growth, job creation, and macro-economic stability.

He underlined that the U.S. stable economic growth plays an important role to the global, regional and Vietnamese economies.

In the first four months of 2024, two-way trade turnover reached US$38.6 billion, making the U.S. the largest importer of Vietnamese goods.

He stressed that the Vietnamese Government appreciates the positive assessments from the U.S. Department of the Treasury regarding Viet Nam's recent monetary and exchange rate policy management.

Le also took the occasion to seek further support for Viet Nam's development goals, particularly in infrastructure, sustainable energy transition, and climate change response, through bilateral and multilateral initiatives like the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

He called on Yellen and the U.S. Department of the Treasury to support Viet Nam's market economy status recognition in the U.S. Government and Congress.

The recognition would build mutual confidence and create a foundation for further cooperation, benefiting businesses and citizens of both countries./.
