Deputy PM receives AFD Managing Director
VGP - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha hosted a reception for Managing Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) Rémy Rioux in Ha Noi on February 17.
Viet Nam has immense potential for developing renewable energy, including solar and wind projects, said Tran, adding that technology and finance are key to building green and circular economy.
He expected that the AFD-sponsored projects to be launched in Viet Nam in the upcoming time shoud be inter-regional and inter-sectoral.
The AFD should coordinate with Viet Nam's scientists and enterprises in conducting researches, commercializing renewable energy technology, producing green fuel and developing smart grid system, Tran suggested.
He called on the AFD to continue assisting Viet Nam in technology transfer and capital mobilization, expressing his belief that thanks to the support of other nations and international organizations, including the AFD, Viet Nam will become a typical model of a developing country in successfully implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
For his part, Rémy Rioux said that since 1994, the AFD has financed 84 projects with the total capital commitments worth over €2 billion in Viet Nam.
During the 2006-2022 period, the agency disbursed €1.1 billion for 30 projects and development programs, making contribution to the country's climate change response work, he underlined.
The AFD will help analyze and clarify the social impacts of the energy transition process when Viet Nam joins the JETP, he said.
In addition, the AFD wishes to collaborate with the State Bank of Viet Nam in building a comprehensive program on supporting finance transformation to attract investment capital from the private sector serving for renewable energy development, shared Rémy Rioux.
