Deputy heads of the Committee are Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan (permanent) and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An.

The Committee shall aid and advise the Prime Minister in implementing the National Energy Efficiency Program for the 2019-230 period.

The program was approved in March 2013 with a goal to save 8-10 percent of the national energy consumption and to reduce power loss to less than 6 percent up to 2030.

The main tasks of the program include review, development and finalization of mechanisms and policies on economical and efficient use of energy; provision of technical and financial assistance to promote business-production-investment projects on economical and efficient use of energy; building of an energy data center; and capacity building for economical and efficient use of energy./.
