Deputy PM calls for Samsung's assistance in training semiconductor engineers
VGP - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang received General Director of Samsung Viet Nam Choi Joo Ho in Ha Noi on March 4.
At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure in meeting General Director Choi Joo Ho again after more than seven months.
Ha highly appreciates Vietnamese engineers working at Samsung's Research and Development Center, believing that the S24 phone line will help Samsung increase revenue in 2024.
Tran affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always attaches importance to improving the investment environment and promoting digital transformation to create favorable conditions for foreign enterprises to do long-term business in Viet Nam.
With its experience and capacity, Tran proposed that Samsung continue to cooperate with the National Innovation Center (NIC), and assist Viet Nam in realizing the goal of training 50,000 semiconductor industry engineers by 2030.
For his part, General Director Choi Joo Ho said that in 2023, Samsung invested additional US$1.2 billion, bringing the total investment capital in Viet Nam to US$22.4 billion. Notably, Samsung will continue to invest an additional US$1 billion each year in the Southeast Asian country.
There are 2,400 engineers working at the Samsung R&D Center, with Vietnamese engineers playing a pivotal role in studying the application of AI into the Galaxy S24 line of phones, he said.
Regarding the cooperation with the NIC, Samsung and NIC last year signed a Memorandum of Understanding on implementing development activities for Viet Nam's young generation, who will lead the success of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
For human resource training activities, the Korea-based group had also entered a cooperation document with the Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, to train some 40 excellent university students in four years to become future semiconductor industry leaders.
Choi said Samsung will continue researching possibilities to expand cooperation with NIC and support Viet Nam in training human resources in the semiconductor industry.
He also affirmed that Viet Nam's development is Samsung's development and that Samsung's development will contribute to socio-economic development in Viet Nam./.
