Da Nang International Firework Festival 2020 cancelled amid COVID-19 outbreak

VGP - The authorities of Da Nang city decided Thursday that the Da Nang International Firework Festival 2020 will be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

February 21, 2020 5:26 PM GMT+7

The decision was made in response to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's call to temporarily stop organizing festivals to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

The wellknow festival was held for the first time in 2008 and formerly known as the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition.

It has become a major event that attracts thousands of spectators to the coastal city to comtemplate pyrotechnic displays by teams from Viet Nam, Belgium, Brazil, China, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries.

Earlier, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue also announced that the biennial Hue Festival will be delayed until August or even next year if the epidemic remains uncontained.

In addition, schools at all levels of all 63 provinces and cities remain close until February 29 for fears of the epidemic.

According to the Da Nang Municipal Department of Health, no COVID-19 infection case has been confirmed in the city so far.

The city reported 155 suspected COVID-19 cases , of whom 153 tested negative for the virus and discharged and the two remaining under close observation.

In Viet Nam, no new infection cases have been reported over the past days while 15 out of 16 previously announced patients were cleared of the virus, including two Chinese tourists./.
