Cultural industries expected to contribute 7% to GDP by 2030

Cultural industries are expected to account for 7 percent and 8 percent of national GDP by 2030 and 2035, respectively

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has adopted a national target program on cultural development for the 2025-2035 period.

By 2019, this relatively young sector accounted for over 3.6 percent of Viet Nam’s GDP.

Viet Nam currently have 12 cultural industries, with six of them – cinema, crafts, design, performing arts, cultural tourism, and entertainment software and games having achieved significant milestones.

The cinema industry has gained notable international recognition with made in Viet Nam animation while Vietnamese handicrafts are among the top 10 export items and found in 160 countries.

Under the program, the ministry plans to repair and renovate 95 percent of around 120 special national relics, 70 percent of around 2,500 natinal relics by the end of this decade.

The ministry also plans join at least five major cultural and art events abroad.

The ministry estimated at total funding for implementing the national target program over the next five years would reach VND122,250 billion.

By 2035, cultural industries are expected to account for 8 percent of the national GDP./.
