President receives outgoing head of EU Delegation to Viet Nam
VGP - President Vo Van Thuong on Monday hosted a reception for Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti, outgoing Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Viet Nam, in Ha Noi on July 3.
President Vo congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office in Viet Nam, expressing his belief that the diplomat would countinue efforts to further promote good relations between Viet Nam and the EU in his new position.
Vo lauded the diplomat's contributions to the signing of the EU – Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the sides' efforts to hasten the early ratification of the EU – Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by EU member states.
Viet Nam has made significant efforts to realize its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 and wishes to receive financial and technological assistance from developed countries, including the EU, said the President.
The Southeast Asian country has been seriously implementing regulations and recommendations related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to ensure the conditions for the EU to lift its "yellow card" warning against the nation's fisheries sector, affirmed Vo.
For his part, EU Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti expressed his impression that Viet Nam has supported the EU with medical masks and the EU has supported Viet Nam with a COVID-19 vaccine.
He stressed that thanks to the EVFTA, Viet Nam's exports to the EU have experienced positive growth and that EU businesses have high expectations for this agreement. Additionally, the EU continues to promote early ratification of the EVIPA by member states.
The EU has worked closely with Viet Nam to address the IUU issue and Viet Nam has been moving in the right direction and has demonstrated improvement in this area, according to the Ambassador.
The diplomat appreciates Viet Nam's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, noting this significantly attracts EU businesses.
Notably, the EU trusts Viet Nam as an essential partner in the green transition process and will collaborate with Viet Nam to cope with climate change.
The Ambassador vowed to contribute further to the Vietnam-EU relationship in his future positions./.
