On November 30, 2024, the 15th National Assembly approved investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project at its 8th session.
The 350-kph railway will stretch 1,541 kilometers, starting at Ngoc Hoi station in Ha Noi and ending at Thu Thiem station in Ho Chi Minh City. It passes through 15 provinces and cities after the provincial mergers.
It has 23 stations, including five freight stations. Under the preliminary land use plan, the project requires an area of about 10,827 hectares, and 120,836 households are expected to move to make room for the railway.
The project will have total investment capital of around VND1,713.5 trillion (US$67.6 billion).
The Government will strive to complete the whole project by 2035.
Once completed, the railway line will reduce travel time from Ha Noi capital to Ho Chi Minh City to about 5.5 hours./.
