Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung joined the event.

The project, covering an area of 1,070 ha, has the total investment capital of VND2,300 billion (more than US$98 million), is scheduled to complete by 2025.

Designed to be a multi-sector industrial park, Son My 1 Industrial Park will focus on developing energy, electricity, building materials, electronics, information and technology, mechanics, manufacturing and assembly and forestry and food processing.

Remarkably, the industrial park is home to two 4,500MW gas-fired power projects, namely Son My 1 and Son My 2 Power Plants, and a 100-hectare LNG gas port.

Addressing the event, PM Pham said that Viet Nam is striving to become an upper-middle income country by 2030 and a developed country with high per capita income by 2045.

In pursuit of that goal, Pham highlighted the importance of promoting spearhead industries with a focus on digital transformation, digital economy, green conversion, circular economy and climate change adaption.

From that perspective, the Government chief asked to attract more investment in renewable energy such as wind and solar energy as well as processing and manufacturing industry in the industrial park.
