Construction begins on new U.S. Embassy campus in Ha Noi
VGP - The groundbreaking ceremony of the new U.S. Embassy campus began in Ha Noi on Saturday.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. Ambassador to Viet Nam Marc Knapper, Foreign Mister Bui Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People Committee Duong Duc Tuan and other U.S. and Vietnamese officials attended the ceremony.
The U.S. Embassy campus has a total investment of US$1.2 billion, built on 39,000sq.m, on a land area of 3.2 hectares, featuring plenty of greenery.
The campus will have a 99-year lease, as announced during the visit of Vice President Kamala Harris to Ha Noi in August 2021.
Addressing the event, Antony Blinken said that the new embassy represents another significant step toward strengthening the vital partnership between the two nations and people.
Over the last 27 years, the ties that bind Viet Nam and the U.S. have also grown stronger, he noted, adding that both sides are celebrating ten years of collaboration through Comprehensive Partnership.
Viet Nam and the U.S. have joined forces on everything from improving public health, to expanding inclusive economic opportunities, to accelerating the clean energy transition.
"We are advancing a free and open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific region, one that is at peace and rooted in respect for the rules-based international order. And we are continuing to work together to address the legacy of the war in Viet Nam", the U.S. Secretary of State said.
Over an estimated six years of construction, the project will provide good jobs to as many as 1,800 local workers, while adding US$350 million to the Vietnamese economy, shared Antony Blinken./.
