Construction begins on Gia Binh airport in Bac Ninh province
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Gia Binh airport in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
The airport, about 40km from Ha Noi's center, covers an area of 125ha in Xuan Lai commune of Bac Ninh's Gia Binh town.
The project will enable the People's Public Security Air Force to conduct training flights and readiness missions using equipped helicopters.
The airport will accommodate the takeoff and landing of helicopters such as the Chinook CH-47D, Mi-8, Mi-171, and Casa-295 transport aircraft.
Gia Binh airport could also serve as a backup airport for regional airfields and airports in emergencies. It could accommodate aircraft such as the Su-27, Su-30, Embraer, ATR72, and equivalents.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham called for concerted efforts to complete construction of the airport prior to December 31, 2025.
He urged the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Public Security and Bac Ninh province to promptly mull over the expansion of the airport project and a road connecting the airport with Ha Noi.
At present, Viet Nam has 22 airports and the figure will be increased to 30 by the end of this decade and 33 by 2050, according to the Government's master plan for development of national airport system for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050./.
