Central province receives WWF fund to preserve endangered mammals

VGP – The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) announced on October 19 a financial aid of US $213,773 for the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế to protect Saola’s reserve in province.

The project, implemented in 2011, aims at providing necessary information to facilitate the protection of this mammal in the Bạch Mã National Park and the neighboring areas.

The newly established Saola’s reserve is located on an area of 165 km2, which is connected to the Bạch Mã National Park.

Saola, one of the world's rarest mammals was found only in Việt Nam and Laos in 1992. Saola is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species and on Việt Nam’s Red Book.
