The steering committee in charge  of the program reported that tourist arrivals to Cao Bang in 2016 increased by 13.5% compared to the previous year, with international arrivals reaching 40,000 and domestic arrivals estimated at 701,000.

The province’s tourism sector saw a growth rate of 21%, bringing in an estimated revenue of VND142.5 billion (US$6.27 million).

The program targets to develop tourism into an important economic sector in the local service structure, with tourism service operations accounting for a relatively high proportion of total social income.

Other goals include developing the Pac Bo national special relic site into a national tourism site and the Ban Gioc-Nguom Ngao Cave tourist site into a national tourist site by 2020; attracting 75,000 international arrivals and 820,000 domestic arrivals; and earning VND420 billion (US$18.48 million) in social income from tourism, with revenues from tourism accounting for 3% of the province’s gross domestic product.

In order to realize the abovementioned goals, Cao Bang has been implementing a number of measures in a synchronous fashion. The province has promoted the signing of a framework agreement on border tourism development cooperation with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, upgraded the Ly Van border gate into a bilateral border gate and built incentive mechanisms and policies for enterprises investing in tourism infrastructure.

In addition, Cao Bang has also facilitated tourism promotion activities and communication work about its tourist attraction, cultural identities and cuisine, while focusing on training human resources for the tourism sector.
