Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn made the above statement at his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister in Ha Noi on March 21.

Sokhonn briefed Prime Minister Pham on the outcomes of his talks with Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and the outcomes of the 20th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation.

The minutes of the commission's meeting will be the basis for both sides' ministries and agencies to further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation across fields, from politics, diplomacy, security, defense to economy, trade, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, bringing practical benefits to people of the two countries, Sokhonn.

Prime Minister Pham conveyed his greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other senior leaders of Viet Nam to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Mother Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and other senior leaders of Cambodia.

Pham congratulated Cambodia on its recent achievements, particularly in COVID-19 containment, inflation control, economic growth, and successfully hosting the ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 and communal elections last June.

He urged the two countries to effectively implement the high-level agreements and joint statements between the two countries; step up cooperation, transport and economic connectivity, working together to build independent economies, promote border trade and economic development in the shared border areas.

Both sides should also foster cooperation in combating transnational crime and drug trafficking, green trasition, and climate change adaptation, said Prime Minister Pham.

He took the occasion to ask the Cambodian side to continue creating favorable conditions for Cambodian people of Vietnamese origin to work and live in Cambodia, and settle their legal status.

The Prime Minister also called on the two countries to jointly seek appropriate solutions to accelerate the demarcation and marker planting on the remaining 16 percent of the land border in order to build the border line of peace, stability, cooperation and development.

Pham affirmed Viet Nam's support for Cambodia to successfully host such important events in 2023 as the seventh National Assembly election, the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), the ASEAN Para Games, and the 12th summit of the Cambodia - Laos – Viet Nam Development Triangle Area

Both Prime Minister Pham and Sokhonn agreed that the two countries will continue close coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums and work together to contribute to the building of a united, strong and prosperous ASEAN Community./.
