Base salary for public employees to increase by 30% from July 1

VGP - The National Assembly has decided to raise the base salary for cadres, civil servants, and public employees from VND1.8 million (US$70.7) to VND2.34 million (US$92) per month from July 1, 2024.

This is part of a resolution approved by the legislative body on June 29 during final working day of its seventh sitting.

Legislators also voted to increase pensions and social insurance benefits by 15 percent from July 1, 2024.

Preferential allowances for people with meritorious services will be increased by 35.7 percent to VND2,789 per month from current VND2.055 per month.

The above policies shall benefit at least 50 million people, according to Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra.

The Government has allocated around VND680 trillion for the new salary, social insurance benefit, and allowance hikes, Đeputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai told legislators last week.

The Ministry of Finance estimated if these policies are implemented between 2024 and 2026, total funding would reach VND913.3 trillion. This means the Government will need to ensure thare are sufficient resources./.
