Bắc Ninh has made outstanding achievements in socio-economic development in recent years with an annual GDP growth rate of 15.1%.

The locality’s average income per capita stands at US $1,800/year, 38% outreaching its 17th provincial Party Congress’s target.

The industrial production capacity jumped ten ranks nationwide from the 19th in 2004 to 9th this year. The export turnover is US $1.250 billion, posting a year-on-year increase of 67.2% on average, and the province ranks tenth nationwide in terms of competitiveness.

The local people are much encouraged as their traditional folk singing named Quan họ was recently recognized by UNESCO as the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng said that it is easy for Bắc Ninh to take off now as it owns high economic growth, long-lasting culture, and a convenient geographic position which is near the transport axis linking with China, the world’s second largest economy.

Thus the locality needs to effectively tap its advantages to create breakthroughs in economic development to attain the average GDP growth rate of 13–14%/year, the Government chief said.

The central solution should be how to raise the workforce quality to develop a knowledge economy, stressed PM Dũng.
