Dignitaries to the event include Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Timor-Leste's Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
This year's forum is designed to seek new perspectives and specific policy recommendations to realize the ASEAN Vision 2045, said Vietnamese Ambassador to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong.
The theme reflects ASEAN's cooperation priorities across all the three pillars of ASEAN Community: Political-security community, economic community, and socio-cultural community, she added.
Initiated by Viet Nam in 2023, AFF has emerged as a valuable complement to ASEAN's existing mechanisms, noted Philippine Ambassador to Viet Nam Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III.
While regular ASEAN meetings primarily focus on current issues, the AFF provides a platform for discussing future developments and long-term challenges, said Fernandez III.
Meanwhile, Thai Ambassador Urawadee Sriphiromya described AFF as both timely and necessary amid increasingly complex regional and global challenges.
"The forum offers an open, inclusive, and forward-looking space where leaders, scholars, and business representatives can exchange views on strategic issues affecting ASEAN and the wider region", shared the diplomat.
Sharing the same vein, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Viet Nam João Pereira said AFF has grown beyond a gathering of officials.
The Ambassador emphasized that the forum provides a valuable opportunity for participants to exchange views on policies, strategies, and future challenges while advancing the implementation of ASEAN Vision 2045./.
