This is part of the national action plan on pollution remediation and air quality management for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

During the 2026–2030 period, it aims to control, prevent, and gradually remedy and improve air pollution in key economic areas, focus on addressing air pollution in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, and neighboring provinces.

It also targets to strengthen the capacity for air-quality prevention and control nationwide and contribute to protecting public health, building a green economy, and ensuring sustainable growth.

Under the plan, by 2030, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 20 percent and 10 percent compared to 2024.

Up to 80 percent of the days in a year in Ha Noi have air quality index (VN-AQI) levels rated as good or moderate.

Viet Nam strives to have 1,200 green buildings by 2030, including at least 200 in Ha Noi and 500 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Decision is scheduled to take effect on November 19 this year.

The Southeast Asian nation has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, which includes a major shift to green vehicles by that year./.
