The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington docks at Tien Sa Port, Da Nang City, July 30, 2026

It marks the fourth visit by a U.S. aircraft carrier to Viet Nam, following previous visits in 2018, 2020, and 2023.

The welcome ceremony was attended by representatives from Viet Nam's Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant Vietnamese agencies.

During their stay in Da Nang, commanding officers and crew will pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Da Nang Municipal People's Committee and the Naval Region 3 Command.

Nearly 6,000 officers and sailors will also participate in a range of community engagement activities, including cultural, sports, and English-language exchanges, and gift presentations for a local orphanage.

The visit aims to maintain and further strengthen Viet Nam–U.S. relations in line with the two countries' Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

It also reaffirms Viet Nam's capability to provide logistical and technical support for hosting foreign naval vessels, while helping promote the country's image and its people to the international community./.
