The project is supposed to directly benefit around 6.5 million farmers in 16 provinces and generate about 1.4 million post-harvest jobs.
As a result, the percentage of poor households in these areas is expected to drop from 19% to 10% in the period of 2016-2020.
The project costs US $110.4 million in total, of which the central government contributes US $6.22 million, the provincial people committees US $6.5 million, financial partners US $1.35 million, while another US $1.35 million comes from the beneficiaries of biogas plants.
Specifically, financial support will be made available to 40,000 households for developing biogas digesters which serve to reduce pollution.
The project will also help improve food regulations and quality control systems to meet both domestic and export standards.
New infrastructure and technical facilities to support safe products will be established while biogas plants built to minimize negative impacts of livestock waste.
The project will conclude in June 2015. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was chosen to act as the main implementer of the project.
