Major Chinese media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, and China Central Television (CCTV), provided extensive coverage of the event. They reported that the Congress is tasked with reviewing the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress alongside a comprehensive assessment of 40 years of Đổi Mới (Renewal). The Congress will highlight major achievements, identify shortcomings and their causes, and draw key theoretical and practical lessons of long-term significance for national development.
The Congress is also expected to discuss and adopt orientations, objectives, and key breakthrough tasks for the 2026–2030 period with a vision to 2045, review Party and political system building, and elect the 14th Central Committee of the CPV.
Chinese media further noted that, in preparing the Congress documents, the Communist Party of Viet Nam integrated the Political Report, the Socio-economic Report, and the Report on Party Building into a single, unified draft Political Report. For the first time, this document has been structured as an action program, clearly defining specific tasks, timelines, and responsibilities. The draft was widely circulated for public consultation and received nearly 14 million comments nationwide.
Russia's financial and economic news portal 1prime.ru reported that the Congress will focus on approving Viet Nam's socio-economic development strategy through 2030, along with key issues related to Party organization and personnel. It highlighted that the report to be presented by the Party Central Committee adopts a new format that merges political, socio-economic, and Party-building content into one document.
Citing Congress documents prepared by the CPV Central Committee, the portal reported that Viet Nam's overarching goal in the new era is to become a prosperous and powerful socialist nation, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading countries. Accordingly, the CPV's top priority over the next four years is to achieve strategic milestones: becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and laying the foundation for becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.
According to the Russian outlet, Viet Nam aims for an average annual GDP growth of at least 10 percent during the 2026–2030 period. Achieving this target will require a new growth model, comprehensive economic restructuring, and accelerated industrialization and modernization, with science, technology, and innovation identified as key drivers.
The e-newspaper of Cuba's Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina launched a special column entitled "The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam" to disseminate official information about this important political event to international readers. The section features articles and photos about all events of the Congress, affirming that the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) is leading the Vietnamese nation into a new era of peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization and happiness.
Meanwhile, a bulletin by Frelimo, the ruling party of Mozambique, highlighted the atmosphere of solidarity, optimism, and celebration in Ha Noi ahead of and during the opening of the Congress. The city was described as being adorned with flags and banners marking the major political event, reaffirming Ha Noi's role as the nation's political and cultural center and its contribution to promoting national unity.
Singaporean media outlets, including The Straits Times and CNA, focused on Viet Nam's determination to pursue 10 percent economic growth in the remaining years of the decade despite multiple challenges, such as natural disasters, epidemics, traditional and non-traditional security risks, intensifying strategic competition, and disruptions to global supply chains, energy, and food security. These reports also highlighted the leadership's commitments to climate-resilient infrastructure development and enhanced domestic, regional, and global connectivity.
In Malaysia, Free Malaysia Today emphasized Viet Nam's pledges to reform and streamline administrative procedures to foster technological development and expand global trade while safeguarding national independence and interests.
Earlier, ABC News described the Congress as Viet Nam's most important political event, as it will determine the country's leadership and overall policy direction for the next five years. The outlet noted that the ambition to become a high-income country by 2045 will shape Viet Nam's political, economic, and international trajectory.
In an article published on January 20, Bloomberg quoted analysts as saying that the 14th National Congress represents the formalization and consolidation of policies guiding Viet Nam's macroeconomic development. As the country seeks to move up the value chain and achieve high-income status by 2045, the Congress places strong emphasis on developing the private sector as a key engine of growth, while maintaining openness to trade and investment and strengthening resilience against external shocks.
The New York Times described the Congress as the most consequential in decades, taking place at a critical juncture for Viet Nam—an emerging middle power and one of Asia's most dynamic economies. After 40 years of renewal and remarkable poverty reduction, the country faces growing pressure to implement bolder reforms to enhance openness, efficiency, and competitiveness.
Commenting on Viet Nam's agenda for the next five years, Modern Diplomacy noted that the draft Resolution of the 14th National Congress reflects a stronger emphasis on security alongside ambitious economic growth targets. It observed that Viet Nam's political stability continues to reassure international investors seeking long-term predictability.
