General Secretary: 14th CPVCC to have 200 members
VGP – The 14th Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee (CPVCC) is expected to comprise 200 members, including 180 full members and 20 alternate members, said General Secretary To Lam.

General Secretary To Lam
To made the above statement during his meeting with revolutionary veterans and heroic mothers in Ha Noi on Thursday.
CPVCC members are elected every five years by the National Party Congress. The next Congress is scheduled to take place in early 2026.
The 14th CPVCC will elect around 17-19 members to the Politburo and around 11-13 members to the Secretariat. These figures remain unchanged compared to the recent tenures.
The number of 14th CPVCC members aged below 47 and female-ethnic members is expected to account for more than 10 percent and 10-12 percent, respectively.
Regarding the overhaul of the political system, the Party chief emphasized that this process reflects the Party's determination to innovate its way of thinking and to create new momentum for Viet Nam to enter the new era of development.
For the first time, the Party carried out the massive rearrangement of the political system in favor of the country's long-term development strategy, which led to the dissolution of four Party agencies, five agencies of the National Assembly, five ministries and three Government bodies, 30 general departments, and 1,025 departments.
The two-tier local administration system (provincial and communal-level administrations) officially came into operation from July 1, 2025 following the dissolution of district-level administrations nationwide.
This process also resulted in the reduction of 151.440 cadres and civil servants, including 110,700 public employees working at district and communal-level administrations.
The streamlined political system helps save trillions of Viet Nam Dong for development investment each year. More importantly, it enables the innovation of the way of thinking and improves the efficiency of the local administrations.
Regarding anti-corruption, competent authorities have handled 1,778 cases involving 4,038 persons in the first six months this year, according to the General Secretary./.
