The WHO Director-General expresses his thanks to Viet Nam's Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan for her leadership and partnership together with leaders and colleagues from the Ministry of Health.

According to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Viet Nam have might be proud of the transformation of life and health in the country over recent decades. Life expectancy has increased by 15 years.  

With massive reductions in vaccine-preventable diseases including the elimination of polio, Viet Nam has also made huge strides towards ending the HIV, malaria and tuberculosis (TB) epidemics.

The nation has expanded social health insurance significantly, putting further along the path to the universal health coverage. Progress has also been made towards tackling risk factors for non-communicable diseases such as reducing smoking rate.

Recently, Viet Nam demonstrated a strong response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a swift and comprehensive vaccine roll out to reach the most vulnerable.

WHO is proud to be a trusted partner to the government and people of Viet Nam, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

"As we celebrate the WHO's 75th birthday, WHO Representative in Viet Nam, Dr. Angela Pratt and I remain committed to supporting you on our journey, towards a healthier, safer, fairer future for all people of Viet Nam", he stated.
