This program will be implemented in four provinces, announced the WB in Viet Nam on January 23
WB Country Director to Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa noted governments are increasingly focused on protecting their most vulnerable citizens against extreme deprivation, creating a failsafe against economic shocks, and providing opportunities to the poor.
This credit amount aims to fund the Social Assistance System Strengthening Project (SASSP), enabling the Government to realize the objective of poverty reduction by strengthening the role of social assistance system in offering children more opportunities and poverty escape.
The project will implement some important items, including making a national database on households in poverty and poverty threshold and social welfare beneficiaries and a management information system.
It is expected to support the Government's objective of reducing fragmented projects, creating a foundation to unite the program and improving the implementation efficiency for social assistance.
The project, which is jointly conducted by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UK Department for International Development and the WB, will be piloted in Ha Giang, Quang Nam, Tra Vinh and Lam Dong provinces.
