The BRT system , part of the Ho Chi Minh City Green Traffic – Ideas and Basic Designs, is invested with US$140 million, of which US$124 million is financed through the World Bank.

The project is expected to come into operation in December 2018.

The 23.4km Line No. 1 will run along the Mai Chi Tho and Vo VanKiet Avenues, starting from the An Lac roundabout in BinhChanh District and running through the districts of 1, 5, 6 and 8, and Binh Tan and Binh Chanh before ending at the T-junction Cat Lai in District 2.

The line is hoped to help cut down energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as well as safe travel.

The line can accommodate up to 28,300 passengers a day and will be friendly to people with disabilities.
