VN's marine reserves estimated 4 million tons

VGP – Viet Nam’s marine reserves are estimated to hold around 4.25 million tons with more than 900 species, according to the Directorate of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The reserves of small pelagic species boast 2.65 million tons, accounting for 62.4%, followed by big pelagic with 1.03 million tons and benthos with 487,000 tons.

The marine reserves in the North have 750,000 tons, the Central 712,000 tons, the Southern East 1,141,000 tons, the Southern West 610,000 tons and the middle of the East Sea 1,036,000 tons.

Viet Nam expects to exploit around 1.75 million tons of seafood annually.

In the first two months of 2014, 419,000 tons of seafood were caught, a year-on-year-increase of 4.2%.
