UN-pursued values for the handicapped

“Dignity and justice for all of us” is the 2008 theme of this event.

The year 2008 remarks a significant advance in the international human rights movement with the entry into force on May 3 of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to protect the rights of the handicapped.

On November 30, a score of activities were carried out throughout Việt Nam to back the disabled to integrate in the community.

A job transaction floor for disabilities was opened in Hà Nội.

With the involvement of 30 recruitment companies, the floor was supposed to generate 2,000 jobs for the handicapped in the capital.

On this occasion, the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability announced its decision to work with Hà Nội’s Disabled People Association to establish an independent center for the handicapped in Hà Nội.

Thanks to a donation of Belgium’s Handicapped International, the Disability Resource and Development (DRD) Program and the Hồ Chí Minh City Disabled Youth Association jointly held the “Unique 15.3%” Camp, attracting various disabled associations and groups, voluntary groups, and students.

A total  free charitable concert for Vietnamese handicapped is held

Through games in order to provide knowledge and information about disabilities, ordinary people have more chances to understand how the handicapped fully and equitably reintegrate in the society.

The Việt Nam Assistance for Handicapped (VNAH) held a charitable concert to serve Vietnamese disabled in Đà Nẵng City.

Through the event, VNAH hoped to raise awareness and concerns of the international community over the disabled, assist them to overcome difficulties and integrate into the society.

It is said that there remain around 5.3 million Vietnamese handicapped. Nevertheless, 70% of them is in the working age and few have found stable and suitable jobs. As a result, such events are of great significance to help the handicapped find jobs and reintegrate in the community.
