VN–Argentina relations develop quickly

VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner signed a joint communiqué and witnessed the signing of many cooperative deals. The President announced that the Latin American country has recognized Việt Nam’s market economy.

On April 16 (local time), PM Dũng held talks with President Kirchner at the Presidential Palace in the capital city of Buenos Aires.

Việt Nam – A shining example

After briefing each other recent situations, strategies and development targets of their respective countries, the two leaders discussed orientations and measures to strengthen the bilateral friendship and all-round cooperative ties.

President Kirchner expressed her admiration to Việt Nam’s great achievements gained during the renewal process, considering it a shining example for many developing countries.

She confirmed that PM Dũng’s visit is of significance, making great contributions to reinforcing and boosting the fine relations between the two governments and the two peoples.

PM Dũng affirmed Việt Nam’s determination in broadening and deepening the multifaceted cooperation with Argentina, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, energy, oil and gas, science, technology and culture.

Expanding cooperative ties

The two leaders were pleased that the friendly and all-round cooperative relations between the two countries have made considerable progresses, notably the resumption of operations of the Inter-governmental Cooperation Committee in 2009, the annual growth rate of 30-50% in the two-way trade, and the expanded cooperation in such fields as culture, science, technology, education and training. They agreed on orientations and measures to boost the bilateral ties in the coming time in conformity with potential and aspiration of the two countries.

Việt Nam and Argentina will maintain frequent contacts of top leaders, operate their inter-governmental committee on a regular basis to review and put forth new fields and modes of cooperation, and effectively implement the signed cooperative deals and negotiate new agreements.  

The two countries will also encourage and create favorable conditions for enterprises to establish direct partnership and do business while expanding cooperation on national defense, security, education and training, and beefing up relations between their legislative bodies, socio-political organizations, and localities.

The leaders agreed to strengthen cultural, art and sports exchanges on the occasions of the 200th anniversary of Argentina’s National Day, Việt Nam’s 65th National Day, and the 1,000th founding anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

President Kirchner informed her Government’s recognition of Việt Nam’s market economy, a decision which, as PM Dũng stated, will surely foster the economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.

The host President proposed the two countries soon finalize an agreement on Argentina’s help for Việt Nam to develop football.

After the talks, PM Dũng and President Kirchner inked the joint communiqué, and witnessed the signing of many cooperative deals, including a government-level agreement on energy cooperation, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in trade and economic negotiations between the two ministries of Foreign Affairs, a cultural cooperation program, three letters of intention on cooperation in electric power.
