The Vietnamese side suggested the U.S. congress and government continue providing non-refundable ODA capital for detoxification at toxic/dioxin hotspots, including Da Nang, Bien Hoa and Phu Cat airports, and clearance of unexploded mines and bombs.
The Ministry of National Defense and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have coordinated to decontaminate about 90,000 cubic meters of land at the Da Nang airport. Funding for the project included US$100 million from the US government’s non-refundable ODA and US$2.7 million from the Vietnamese government.
Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Ted Yoho affirmed that the U.S. Government attaches importance to cooperating with Viet Nam in addressing issues related to war consequences.
