VN to host 2012 Southeast Asian Judo Championships

VGP – The Vietnamese Government has agreed in principle to host the 2012 Southeast Asian Judo Championships.

This year’s tournament is expected to be held in November in the Southern province of Bac Lieu with the participation of some 200 athletes, coaches, referees and invited guests.

Earlier in 2010, the Southeast Asian Judo Championships was organized at the Phan Dinh Phung sports hall in Ho Chi Minh City. The tournament drew the participation of 120 athletes, coaches and referees from seven countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Vietnam won the 2010 title with 13 gold and 2 silver medals, followed by Laos with 2 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronzes. Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore and the Philippines were placed from 3rd to 7th position, respectively.
