VN sets specific goals on climate change response

VGP – Viet Nam has decided to cut greenhouse gas by 8-10% against the level of 2010; reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by 1-1.5% per year and decrease greenhouse emission from energy by 10-20%, said Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha.

Deputy Minister Ha made the announcement on October 1 in Ha Noi at a regular press briefing on the operation of theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment.

He also briefed major outcomes of the recent UN Climate Summit in New York, the US in which UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon urged leading groups, financial organizations and big cities to shake hands to cut greenhouse gas and respond to climate change.

According to Deputy Minister Ha, the Ministry imposed seven administrative penalties on six enterprises which violated regulations on mineral exploitation./.
