VN, Russian recognize their diplomas

VGP – An agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas was officially inked again between Việt Nam and Russia after a 30-year interruption.

The agreement was penned in Moscow on March 15 by Vietnamese Deputy PM, Minister of Education and Training Nguyễn Thiện Nhân and Russian Minister of Education and Science Andrei Fursenko.

According this permanent document, Việt Nam and Russia will accept all kinds of certificates, diplomas, degrees and academic titles granted by their respective educational agencies.

The signing is considered an important move to complete the legal foundation for education and training cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks of the two ministers, Mr. Nhân informed the plan to upgrade a technique university into the Việt Nam-Russia Technology University.

It was reported that three universities in Moscow and two in Saint Petersburg had committed to join the project.

Deputy PM Nhân also emphasized that Việt Nam is willing to receive more Russian students.

So far, over 200 Russian students and teachers have arrived Việt Nam to better their Vietnamese skills and about 35 students are joining under-graduate and post-graduate training courses here.

Minister Fursenko affirmed his ministry’s determination to push up bilateral cooperation in the field of education and training.

Russia pledged to establish a committee, headed by a Deputy Minister of Education, in order to help realize the Việt Nam-Russia Technology University Project.

Talking of the Việt Nam-Russian Rectors’ Meeting slated for late 2010, Mr. Fursenko described the event as a good chance for leaders of universities to exchange their experience.
