VN intensifies community-based malaria prevention

VGP – The PM has recently approved the project on community-based the prevention and control of malaria among vulnerable groups and empowerment and enhancement of sustainability for national malaria prevention programs between 2016 and 2017.

The project was funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (The Global Fund).

The project targets to reduce the rates of malaria-related infection and deaths and prevent large-scale malaria outbreaks in a bid to reach the objectives of the National Strategy for malaria control and elimination for the period 2011-2020.

The project will be implemented in 31 provinces with total funding of over US$15, of which the Global Fund granted US$12.47 million in non-refundable aid.

According to the Institute of Mariology Parasitology and Entomology, the number of malaria sufferers fell from 43,700 in 2012 to 27,800 in 2014.

However, the number of malaria cases in the Southern and Central Highlands areas rose remarkably, by nearly 67% and 27%, respectively, over the past six months of 2015.

Viet Nam planned completely eradicate the disease by 2030./.
