South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul made the above statement during his phone conversation with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son on January 26.

Cho expressed his delight at the Viet Nam-South Korea comprehensive strategic partnership.

For his part, Bui affirmed his resolve to strengthen ties between the two ministries in a bid to promote the Viet Nam-Sout Korea comprehensive strategic partnership in a more substantive and effective fashion in the time ahead.

He suggested the Korean side continue close coordination within the ASEAN-Korea framework, and soon resume activities within the Mekong-South Korea mechanism.

Bui called on South Korea to support Viet Nam to undertake its role as the coordinator for ASEAN-South Korea relations in 2021-2024, and to host the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) summit, scheduled for 2025.

The Vietnamese diplomat recommended the Korean side continue support for a common vision of ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, maintaining a peaceful, stable and legal order environment and resolving maritime disputes by peaceful means via international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Both sides vowed to strengthen political trust via all-level delegation exchanges, enhance bilateral trade cooperation, and join hands in implementing an action plan to effectively materialize the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership.

The pair agreed to encourage Korean businesses to expand operation and investment in Viet Nam, build R&D centers and promote technology transfer for Viet Nam.

Both sides need to effectively operate the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of Korea (EDCF) and the Economic Development Promotion Facility (EDPF), they noted.

They pledged to step up people-to-people linkage, increase youth exchange and enhance cooperation in training, particularly in terms of training high-quality human resource for Viet Nam and receiving more Vietnamese laborers to work in the RoK in the time ahead./.
